JIS B4 paper size
257 × 364 mm
10.12 × 14.33 inches · 25.7 × 36.4 cm · aspect ratio 1:1.42
JIS B4 size is 257 × 364 mm. Those are the JIS B4 dimensions a printer works to; the same sheet in centimetres, inches, points and pixels is below.
What JIS B4 is for
JIS B4 is 257 × 364 mm. The Japanese office size between A3 and A4, widely used for newspapers inserts, manga volumes and school handouts. ISO B4 is 250 × 353 mm, so a JIS B4 sheet will not fit a tray cut for the ISO one.
JIS B4 dimensions in every unit
| Unit | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|
| Millimetres | 257 mm | 364 mm |
| Centimetres | 25.7 cm | 36.4 cm |
| Inches | 10.12 in | 14.33 in |
| Points (PostScript) | 729 pt | 1032 pt |
JIS B4 in pixels
Pixel dimensions depend entirely on the resolution you are working at — there is no single "pixel size" for a sheet of paper. JIS B4 size in pixels has every resolution, with file sizes and canvas setup.
| Resolution | Pixels | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 72 DPI | 729 × 1032 | Screen preview only — far too coarse to print |
| 150 DPI | 1518 × 2150 | Draft printing, internal documents |
| 300 DPI | 3035 × 4299 | The standard for commercial print |
| 600 DPI | 6071 × 8598 | Fine detail, line art, archival scanning |
Setting up a print document? Use 300 DPI and add 3 mm of bleed on every edge unless your printer specifies otherwise.
How JIS B4 relates to the rest of the series
JIS B0 is defined as 1.5 square metres, where ISO A0 is one. JIS B4 is that sheet halved 4 times, so its area is 0.0938 m² and 16 of them tile one JIS B0.
That 1.5 against 1 is why the series exists: at 257 × 364 mm, JIS B4 is about 22% longer on each edge than A4 (210 × 297 mm), filling the gap the A series leaves between one size and the next.
It is not the same sheet as ISO B4, which is 250 × 353 mm. The two standards share every name in the series and agree on none of the sizes, so a tray, binder or sleeve cut for one will not take the other. Ask a printer for "B4" outside Japan and you will get the ISO sheet.
Scaling between neighbouring JIS B sizes is the same √2 as the A series — 141% up, 71% down — because JIS B is built by halving too. Only the starting area differs.
