JIS B3 paper size
364 × 515 mm
14.33 × 20.28 inches · 36.4 × 51.5 cm · aspect ratio 1:1.41
JIS B3 size is 364 × 515 mm. Those are the JIS B3 dimensions a printer works to; the same sheet in centimetres, inches, points and pixels is below.
What JIS B3 is for
JIS B3 is 364 × 515 mm. Common for posters and large notebooks in Japan. It sits between A2 and A3, which is the entire purpose of a B series: to fill the gaps the A series leaves.
JIS B3 dimensions in every unit
| Unit | Width | Height |
|---|---|---|
| Millimetres | 364 mm | 515 mm |
| Centimetres | 36.4 cm | 51.5 cm |
| Inches | 14.33 in | 20.28 in |
| Points (PostScript) | 1032 pt | 1460 pt |
JIS B3 in pixels
Pixel dimensions depend entirely on the resolution you are working at — there is no single "pixel size" for a sheet of paper. JIS B3 size in pixels has every resolution, with file sizes and canvas setup.
| Resolution | Pixels | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 72 DPI | 1032 × 1460 | Screen preview only — far too coarse to print |
| 150 DPI | 2150 × 3041 | Draft printing, internal documents |
| 300 DPI | 4299 × 6083 | The standard for commercial print |
| 600 DPI | 8598 × 12165 | Fine detail, line art, archival scanning |
Setting up a print document? Use 300 DPI and add 3 mm of bleed on every edge unless your printer specifies otherwise.
How JIS B3 relates to the rest of the series
JIS B0 is defined as 1.5 square metres, where ISO A0 is one. JIS B3 is that sheet halved 3 times, so its area is 0.1875 m² and 8 of them tile one JIS B0.
That 1.5 against 1 is why the series exists: at 364 × 515 mm, JIS B3 is about 22% longer on each edge than A3 (297 × 420 mm), filling the gap the A series leaves between one size and the next.
It is not the same sheet as ISO B3, which is 353 × 500 mm. The two standards share every name in the series and agree on none of the sizes, so a tray, binder or sleeve cut for one will not take the other. Ask a printer for "B3" outside Japan and you will get the ISO sheet.
Scaling between neighbouring JIS B sizes is the same √2 as the A series — 141% up, 71% down — because JIS B is built by halving too. Only the starting area differs.
