US and imperial measures are not the same
This is the category where an unmarked unit does the most damage. A US gallon is 3.785 L; an imperial gallon is 4.546 L — a difference of 20%. Everything derived from them differs too: US pints, quarts and fluid ounces are all smaller than their imperial namesakes, except that the US fluid ounce is very slightly larger (29.57 mL against 28.41 mL), because the two systems divide their gallons differently. A fuel-economy figure in miles per gallon means two noticeably different things either side of the Atlantic.
Cups are a special case
A cup is a unit of volume, but recipes use it to measure ingredients by weight, and the conversion depends entirely on what is in the cup. A cup of water is 236 g, a cup of flour about 125 g, a cup of honey about 340 g. That is a property of the ingredient rather than of the unit, so those live on the cooking pages instead of here.
